Pretty good.

Thank you!

A pretty good little Metroidvania that was cool to play through in a couple of minutes. I really felt compelled to get all the gems and upgrades, but I definitely think that a few things could be improved.
First, I think that the art used was pretty cute, and I liked that the backgrounds for each section were a different color, but I think that the sprites could've been much cuter if an 8-bit style had been used (though I understand if that's not up your alley). I found the key in particular to look a little ugly (almost like a child had been chewing on the inside of it).

Gameplay-wise, I feel as though the creator did a great job! There were lots of cool puzzle moments that I had to take a minute to find solutions to. The only part I didn't like was that part at the end when you jump off the cliff and you can't see the bottom so you are forced to make a leap of faith and inevitably jump into spikes the first time. Troll moments just aren't my thing I guess. So overall a great game that won't take long to beat, I'd advise you play it through.

Notes for the creator:
1) Try out new art styles! The little keyman looked cute, but you should try making at least one 8-bit game.
2) I would've liked to use all my powers together more at the end for one more new section. I imagine that this didn't happen since it was for a game jam, but if you ever want to make another Metroidvania then I think you should add at least one more challenging section where players can use all of their newfound powers
3) You did great! Keep on keeping on! :D

Hey there, thanks a lot for the review :)

There actually is a story behind why my art looks like this. This was initially a team project, where I worked with an "artist". The first plans for this were to make it 8bit, but my "artist" was apparently incapable of making pixel art and preferred to make high rez traditional art so we settled on a base 64x64 compromise for all blocks.

However, I soon realized that this "artist" was ALSO incapable of making any art that wasn't stickmen figures so we had a disagreement and he just abandoned after a day of jamming.

I already had placeholder art of course, so what I did was try to refurbish it slightly to polish the lineart and add shading. But again, It was a jam game so I didn't have that much time. Hence the child-like sprites :p (and yes I know this key looks janky)

In the end, the art you see now is basically refurbished programmer art :p

If you check my itch or gamejolt link, you'll see that I've already experimented with many art styles BTW! https://adriendittrick.itch.io/

I will be slowly uploading more games to Newgrounds as I get time off from my current project!

Anyway thanks for the kind words and advice :)
